Attempting another Tik Tok craze

Although I don’t have Tik Tok I seem to be watching numerous videos daily, no thanks to friends and family sending them. One that caught my eye was this creation called cloud bread. It was basically looked like coloured meringue relabelled as bread. It looked super easy to make and the fact it only had a few ingredients I thought why the hell not! Ive included the recipe I used below.

CLOUD BREAD

INGREDIENTS

3 Egg Whites

2.5 Tablespoons Sugar

1 Tablespoon Cornflour (Cornstarch)

Food Colouring (optional)

METHOD

  1. Pre-heat oven to 150 Degrees celsius. Beat egg whites in mixer until small bubbles form

2. Add sugar and mix until large bubbles form

3. Add cornflour and colouring then mix until peaks form

4. Pour mix out onto tray and shape

5. Put in oven for 25 minutes then remove and let cool

When it came to making it. I found it really easy, in fact the spawn helped me while number 2 was sleeping. Because the recipe encourages food colouring it seemed only right to make it a pretty colour. I wanted purple and the spawn wanted pink…….so we went with pink. When it was baked I let it cool (only to a nice warm temp) a bit before I cut into it . Cutting into it I found it felt really rubbery so I gave up and just tore into it. With my first bite the “bread” had the most strange texture, it kinda reminded me of a marshmallow but without the sweetness. The flavour was shit, I could taste was egg. Thinking I didn’t bake it long enough I put it in the oven for a bit longer, NOPE! The god damn blob still tasted like bloody egg.

This was overall a failure, not even the spawn was impressed with the pink food. She took one bite and in her youthful honesty put it back on the board and said “yeah that’s rubbish”. I have seen other recipes for this after we created it and they seem to look a little better, but I think I tried it once and the fun of making a unique bread has passed. Below is a photo of the blob after we tore it up. This is a no from me.
