If you haven’t been following me for that long, every year I attempt to make a gingerbread house from a prepackaged kit. Every year the house is questionable and generally it’s a scam because they never package enough damn icing! Not this year! I’m going to get a house that doesn’t look like it should be condemned, I’m going to make it look so good it can be out on display for Christmas. If it ends up looking like a crap shack……the smallest spawn trashed it- that will be the story and I will stick to it. So this post is obviously a few days late, this is 100% intentional, it’s Christmas Eve and I’m making this gingerbread house. So everything that happens with this house will be fresh.

I got this Gingerbread house kit from Aldi a few weeks ago. I usually get the kits from the supermarket or Target. They have all been a bit of a flop and NOT gingerbread! You read right nearly every “gingerbread house kit” I’ve bought has been sugar cookies sometimes with a drop of gingerbread flavouring. Ripped off man! So anyway when opening up the kit and checking all the pieces I’d say it’s safe to say it’s gingerbread. This gingerbread house is themed, it’s Hansel and Gretel themed with the witch aswell. This worked out well because this could be the lollies station so all the sugary sweets can be around this. After going through everything in the box (then actually reading the outside of the box) I realised that it didn’t come with icing (Christmas idiot) so it was lucky I bought a tube of icing as extra.

Building the gingerbread house was actually easy! It was more of a tent set up and the icing seems to make it all stick together well. I wish I read the damn box in the first place because I would have bought two tubes of icing and given the roof a bit more of a snow covered look. I went to the store earlier today and there was no icing in tubes, only buttercream icing which I can’t imagine would work too well on a gingerbread house. So we just made do with what we had and went a little overboard with decorating the board with lollies. It definitely looks like the witches house from Hansel and Gretel now.

This felt like redemption, I finally put together a Gingerbread house and it didn’t go to shit. I finally had one that looked good enough to be on display for everyone to see and enjoy. Not one that looks like I made it drunk……maybe next year’s adventure. So it’s almost Christmas (in a few hours) and I am all set to get this day going. No doubt it will start at 5-6am when the spawns wake up. This year that might work in my favour since we are hosting a Christmas breakfast instead of a dinner or lunch. We felt it might be a good shake up and everyone can be done by midday. So yes, love my gingerbread house we have an absolute win this year!
IM OUT!!!
